Sumitomo Cyclo & Hyponic Gearmotors

These are the two Sumitomo lines we quote most. The Cyclo 6000 is an inline gearmotor and reducer built on Sumitomo’s cycloidal design, where the load is shared across many contact points instead of a few gear teeth. That gives it its reputation for handling shock loads on conveyors, mixers and other hard-starting equipment. The Hyponic is Sumitomo’s right-angle hypoid gearmotor: compact, quiet and more efficient than a typical worm gearbox, with washdown, stainless and brakemotor versions available.

Sumitomo Buddybox & Shaft-Mount Gear Reducers

Buddybox reducers pair a Cyclo input stage with a bevel or helical output stage, giving you Cyclo’s shock-load capacity in a right-angle or parallel-shaft package. The Helical Shaft Mount (HSM) is a drop-in choice for screw conveyors and other shaft-mounted applications, with CEMA screw conveyor and C-face options.

Sumitomo Paramax Gear Drives

Paramax 9000 Series drives are Sumitomo’s heavy-duty parallel-shaft and right-angle gearboxes for large conveyors, mixers, crushers and other high-horsepower equipment. Paramax SFC drives are built for cooling towers and air-cooled condensers. We also quote replacement units and parts for legacy Paramax installations. How to Read a Sumitomo Model Number

Sumitomo model numbers follow a consistent pattern, so the nameplate tells us most of what we need to quote a replacement. Take a Hyponic gearmotor such as RNYM5-1633-YB-EP-B-30:

• Leading letters (RNYM) – the product line and configuration. Hyponic models start with R, Cyclo models start with C. An M in this group means a gearmotor (motor attached); without it, the unit is usually a reducer only.
• Number right after the letters (5) – the motor size. On U.S. gearmotors this is the horsepower.
• Four-digit number (1633) – the gear frame size.
• Middle letter codes (YB-EP) – gearing and option codes.
• B – the unit has a brake. No B means no brake.
• Last number (30) – the reduction ratio, here 30:1.

Codes vary between series and over the years, so the easiest route is to send us the full nameplate or a photo of it. We’ll confirm the exact model and current equivalent.
